Today was our first full day in Germany, and also the opening of the 174th official Oktoberfest in Munchen.
We began the day (after breakfast, of course) with a sightseeing bus tour of Munich. Here's a couple of shots...
This is our hotel in Munich, the 'Munich Hotel': It's a nice place, clean and efficient. The food is good and it's in a great location.
This is our coach, a double-decker. When we're all on board, there are only a few open seats: Here's Steve clowning around on the grounds of the summer palace: And me, not clowning around: This is the East Gate to the city, in the location of the old (now gone) city walls: I don't remember what this street was, but it looked pretty. More to the point, it illustrates the beautiful weather; it's mid-70's and clear with no humidity, very ideal weather. This is the platz where the Oktoberfest parade in Munich will begin tomorrow morning. The Chico Bavarian Band will be the 15th in line; very near the front. It should be ideal weather for a parade...This is Jan Maggiora (center), her sister-in-law Kristey and her niece Tessa getting back on the bus:After our bus tour we traveled to Wolfratshausen, a small town south of Munich where the Internationals have friends who run an italian restaurant ("Il Broschetto"). We had a great lunch, and the guys played a few tunes: Here's a quick clip of Bob on the accordion:
After lunch in Wolfsratshausen, we came back to Munich for some wandering & sight-seeing in Marienplatz; a couple of beers may have been drunk as well...
